Hey all you hot dog fans, July 23rd is National Hot Dog Day! Whether you choose to call it a frankfurter, a frank, a red hot, a wiener, a dog, or anything else - HOT DOGS taste great!
America has long been called the “melting pot.” It’s a nation where immigrants brought their cultures and blended them to create a uniquely American culture. Speaking of blending, hot dogs are a great case in point. Sausage makers from Vienna, Austria (where the term “wiener” originates) and Frankfurt, Germany (where the name “frankfurter” was created) are credited with bringing their unique concoctions to the United States. But it was the Americans who popularized the hot dog on a bun and it was local cities and regions that created their own personal “dogs” featuring unique toppings - like the Chicago Dog, the Kansas City Dog, and the Corn Dog.

We’re tickled pink to announce that June 23rd is National Pink Day, a day to get out those pinking shears and cut some little pink doilies to celebrate. Last Saturday night, Riser Media was honored at the Best of State Gala. Held at the Salt Palace and hosted by Shauna Lake and Mark Koelbel (of Channel 2 News - CBS affiliate KUTV) the gala honored all recipients of this years Best of State Award. Riser Media was proud to receive the Best of State Award in the Graphic Design category for the second straight year.

It was a packed house as the best of the best in the state of Utah were honored.

For the second year in a row, Riser Media was awarded the prestigious Best of State Award for Graphic Design. The medals will be presented at the 2010 Best of State Awards Gala on Saturday, May 29th in the Grand Ballroom of the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. This black-tie, glamorous celebration, hosted by Shauna Lake and Mark Koelbel of KUTV2, features a double entree dinner and fabulous entertainment.

Folklore has it that during the famous 1492 landing in the New World, Christopher Columbus had an incredible meeting with Chief Tecumseh. The great indian chief raised his hand in the traditional manner and greeted Mr. Columbus with the customary address, “How”. Confused at this manner of greeting, Columbus proceeded to raise his hand and “slap” the hand of Chief Tecumseh. This historic event changed communication forever. Today the High Five is the preferred greeting of sports fans everywhere, all thanks to Columbus and Chief Tecumseh. Believe it, or not. (Disclaimer: no actual historical events were harmed in the making of this Overlooked Holiday.)
This is a day to celebrate the beginning of a tradition that took the boring “greeting” to a whole new level.

Let it never be said that the Riser Medians are not athletic! We totally participated in March Madness and had some great victories with Andrew Hair walking away with the coveted iTunes Gift Card! We also had the privilege of hearing how Programmers approach athletics with the following quote by Kenneth:
“We are running a bracket contest? I have been reading about seeding in Science Daily for the last week. Mathematicians can use logistical regression based off of seeding to determine the winners. I still don’t know what seeding means but when I do, I’m totally going to win this.”
